Today students were given the class period to write their DBQ essay about secession. Students were able to use their documents, outlines, notes and ask the teachers for assistance if they needed it.

Today we outlined our DBQ essay which asked "Why did the South Secede?" We used the documents and outside information to determine how we would format the essay.

Today students took Vocabulary Quiz #10. Afterwards, we began going over the documents from the "What Caused Secession" DBQ.
Today we completed Part 2 of the Amazing Race! It was great to see the students really get into the spirit of competition as well as hearing their conversations analyzing the documents and delving into history! Congratulations to the winners!

Today the class engaged in an exciting competition---an Amazing Race! To help students learn how to write a DBQ essay, we used the online program Quizizz to create a team competition where students answered questions requiring them to analyze documents to put them into social, political, or economic categories, find information from the documents, and recognize outside information. All of this will be helpful as we begin to write our essays. The topic: What was the cause of secession?
There will be a quiz on Vocabulary #10 on Friday.
Today, we discussed the immediate causes of the Civil War. We explained how the Election of 1860 led to the secession of several southern states.
